With our June Evening Sewing Bee now behind us, it’s time to officially welcome a new member into our close-knit community.

Although Leonie has only been with us a short time, attending her very first Sewing Bee back in May, she’s already made quite an impression on both me (Ryan) and everyone lucky enough to spend time with her.

A true local, Leonie is Penrith born and bred, having never lived anywhere else. That’s commitment!

Now, I simply can’t introduce Leonie without sharing the story that inspired the title of this blog post:

The Phone

As our May Evening Sewing Bee wrapped up, everyone said their goodbyes, we packed up, locked the doors, and headed home. Not long afterwards, I received a somewhat frantic phone call from Barb. One of our attendees had misplaced their phone and was hoping it might still be somewhere inside the space.

So, back to The Creative Fringe I went.

We spent the next half hour searching high and low, under tables, between chairs, and in every imaginable nook and cranny. Unfortunately, the phone was nowhere to be found. Defeated, we called it a night and went our separate ways.

Then came another phone call from Barb.

The phone had been found.

Where, you ask?

In Leonie’s handbag.

Bless her heart!

Thankfully, all ended well, and the mystery of the missing phone was solved.

Now, back to Leonie herself.

Creativity clearly runs in the family. Leonie comes from a long line of makers, including knitters, crochet wizards, and talented tailors. While I think Leonie is an incredibly gifted creative in her own right, she insists that within her family she’s simply “the worst of the best” a title that says more about her family than it does about her talents!

A fun fact about Leonie: she’s left-handed. Having learned crochet from her mother, this presented an interesting challenge, as everything had to be taught in reverse. Thankfully, her mum was up to the task, and Leonie mastered it beautifully.

So far, Leonie has completed three blankets for the challenge, and we’re excited to see what other wonderful creations she’ll bring to future Sewing Bees.

We’re delighted to have Leonie as part of our community, misplaced phones and all!
