Kim Delivers Our 1000th Blanket For The 2026 Challenge!
Kim Smith, who has been a volunteer since 2025, came into an impromptu sewing bee organised by committee member Nicky, to deliver two blankets. Unbeknownst to her, she had just walked in with our 1000th and 1001st blanket, completing our challenge goal!

As a small token of our gratitude, we handed Kim a TOTS tote bag and a “Crochet Queen” enamel pin donated by ‘Hello Lovely workshops’, an art workshop business operating within The Creative Fringe!

With the blankets donated by Kim, the TOTS Blanket Challenge achieved its goal of 1000 blankets to be handed over to our charity partners for the year!
We could not have done this without the dedication, love and support from all of our volunteers which, over the course of the challenge, has almost DOUBLED! How incredible!
All About Kim!
Kim came to the TOTS blanket challenge back in 2025, having retired from her job due to serious burnout!
Kim’s love of knitting and crochet started at a rather young age. Her mother taught her to knit and her grandmother taught her the basics of crochet. She has knitted many jumpers throughout her teens and twenties, before returning to the art during COVID-19.
Kim used YouTube and books to teach herself new skills and loves challenging herself with different stitches and creating beautiful blankets!
Family is incredibly important to Kim, She has two adult children and is a proud grandmother to her precious granddaughter, Violet.
As an early childhood teacher, she has always had a love of creativity. As well as knitting and crochet, Kim enjoys sewing, patchwork, quilting and cooking.
Kim also plays the piano! What a talented lady she is!
Like me (Ryan), Kim is an avid animal lover! I will have to ask her what her favourite animal is!
Since she arrived at TOTS, Kim has been a face we are always so happy to see in the space during our sewing bees, and always goes above and beyond to help out wherever she can. Be it sorting squares, sewing on labels or joining blankets!
