We had a wonderful unexpected vitas in The Creative Fringe yesterday by ladies from the Thornton Park Residential Aged Care Centre!
When I (Ryan) came out to greet them, I recognised Beth almost immediately!
I was at my other job in the Penrith Westfields grabbing a drink from the local Coles, when I hear from behind “Excuse me! Are you Ryan from TOTS?!”
I turn around to see Beth running up to me. She explained how she, and a group of ladies from the Aged Care Centre spend time during the week knitting, crocheting and sewing squares for another local challenge, as well as dropping off bags of squares to our local MP, Melissa Mcintosh.
It was absolutely lovely to hear her story and how she volunteers for the local aged care centre in Thornton as well!
I also had the pleasure of meeting Margaret yesterday, the Lifestyle Coordinator at the Thornton Park Residential Aged Care Park. Now I don’t know too much about Margaret, but I can already see just how much she means to beth, and Im sure the Thornton park crew as a whole!
The ladies run a small group of 6-7 knitters on a Thursday and Friday morning, where they sit, chat and knit/crochet!
Beth says that ‘knitting and crocheting makes the ladies feel good, doing something that is able to help the community in times where people may need the assistance most’.
We also spoke about how crafts that involve your hands is therapeutic for those suffering with arthritis, dexterity and memory! How awesome is that?!
We are so Proud to have these lovely ladies on board and we cannot wait to see what they continue to cook up for us!
