Grandmothers and Youtube

Elizabeth Sweeney joined us for our last sewing bee for 2026 and with her, a boot full of blankets, toys, beanies and pillows.

I cannot tell you just how much Elizabeth has brought in over the last 3 weeks of the challenge, not just because there was so much, but because a portion has already been handed over to some of our charity partners!

Glenda, Elizabeths neighbour, brought in 26 blankets crocheted by Elizabeth last year, which in itself is an incredible amount of blankets for a single person to bring in at one time!

Elizabeths grandmother taught her how to crochet when she was just 10.

As I write more of these blogs, I am seeing a pattern of all these lovely ladies learning from their grandmothers at a young age. If only my grandmother took the time to teach me, I wouldn’t have to bug Nicky to teach me all the time!

Not only learning from her grandmother, Elizabeth also took to YouTube to learn to crochet other things than just blankets. We have an abundance of stuffed animals now taking up residence in The Creative Fringe, and let me tell you, these things are ADORABLE!

We are so proud to have such a charitable, giving soul such as Elizabeth, volunteering so much time and effort into making all these wonderful creations to those in need!
