Meet Margaret & Ronald Kelly – A Creative Couple with Hearts of Gold

This week we had the absolute pleasure of meeting two beautiful souls who have recently joined our TOTS Blanket Challenge community – Margaret and Ronald Kelly from Mt Druitt. The couple discovered our challenge through Facebook and have already delivered an incredible 15 handmade blankets to contribute to this year’s effort. What a debut!

Margaret has been knitting and crocheting since she was a little girl, having been lovingly taught by her mum more than 50 years ago. These are skills that clearly run deep, as Margaret can whip up a full-sized blanket in about a week when she’s in the zone! She doesn’t play favourites when it comes to crochet or knitting – she loves them both equally, and it shows in the variety and care stitched into every piece.

Margaret is one of those people who simply can’t sit still without something in her hands. Whether it’s yarn or a hook or a set of needles, she’s always creating. For her, making blankets is more than a craft – it’s a way to give back to the community and share warmth, comfort, and care with those who need it most.

Beside her is her equally creative husband Ronald, a retired mechanic who has found his own meditative outlet through diamond art. His pieces are incredibly intricate – a mosaic of tiny details that take patience and focus to bring to life. The photo of Ronald proudly holding one of his pieces says it all – he’s got an artist’s touch and a heart just as big.

The two of them create side-by-side while watching their favourite shows, each immersed in their craft, each bringing joy to others in their own unique way.

Margaret and Ronald – thank you for finding us, for joining us, and for sharing your creativity and kindness with our TOTS community. We are so grateful to have you with us. Your contribution has not only added beauty and warmth to our blanket tally, but your story has reminded us all of the power of handmade care and the act of giving.

Welcome to the TOTS family!
